I’m sorry that this post is late, but I’ve had a few things going on. ;-)
Kid1 got married and we added a wonderful daughter to our family. Kid2 came home from college, and we got to hang out with his awesome girlfriend for a week. Kid3 graduated from high school and we are preparing for his transition to college. Kid4 is working three jobs to keep up with her spending habits. And kids 5 & 6 are both playing all-star baseball.
And did I mention that my wife is doing real estate and I’m pastoring a church through a new season of growth and a large capital campaign?
It’s been a wonderful season of new blessings, but if I’m honest, I grieve all the changes. Every new opportunity for your children involes releasing a former season of life. Every launch requires letting go. I wasn’t prepared for the amount of grief that exists in the midst of all the joy. I guess that just means that we love our kids deeply, and while we want them to go, we also want them to stay.
It’s hard to explain.
I’m working on a longer post for next week that speaks to everything we are learning about parenting adult kids. I’ve read some books about it, but mostly we are learning from mentors and friends about what needs to change in us as our kids become adults. I hope to have that full article out to you next week.
In the mean time, here’s some fun pictures of all the crazy things happening in the Ferguson family. At least there’s never a dull moment. Why again did we have so many kids?!
